Public Scoping Meetings

Public Scoping:
Pursuant to Assembly Bill 1532 (AB 1532), the Department of City Planning holds public scoping meetings for projects for which it is the Lead Agency. AB 1532 (Chapter 867, Statutes of 2001) requires a lead agency to conduct an Environmental Impact Report scoping meeting for any project of statewide, regional, or areawide significance (these are large projects or environmentally-sensitive projects defined in CEQA Guidelines Sec. 15206). The purpose of public scoping meetings is to get comments from the public and agencies regarding potential environmental impacts of the proposed project, as well as mitigation measures and project alternatives. No decisions regarding the proposed project are made at the public scoping meetings, and speakers are discouraged from presenting non-environmentally related opinions.
