The Office of Historic Resources has undertaken several initiatives that support and build upon our work programs.
Initiatives
HistoricPlacesLA Revealed: Latino Los Angeles
HistoricPlacesLA Revealed is a new initiative aimed at celebrating places and stories associated with Los Angeles’ underrepresented histories. The pilot project, HistoricPlacesLA Revealed: Latino Los Angeles, will highlight sites reflecting the heritage of Los Angeles’s Latino communities through physical markers that provide a link to multimedia content in HistoricPlacesLA, the City’s inventory of designated and surveyed historic resources. More than 100 physical markers will be visible and accessible in public spaces near the sites.
African American Historic Places, Los Angeles
African American Historic Places, Los Angeles, a collaboration between Los Angeles City Planning’s Office of Historic Resources and Getty, seeks to advance the understanding, identification, protection, conservation, and celebration of the city’s Black heritage. It provides the opportunity to rethink historic preservation policies and processes to better support social justice and equity goals.
Los Angeles Armenian American Historic Context Statement
The Armenian American Historic Context Statement is a foundational initiative dedicated to identifying, documenting, and honoring the significant contributions of the Armenian community to the built environment and cultural neighborhoods of Los Angeles. The region is considered home to the largest Armenian diaspora population in the world. The project will highlight how Armenian-Americans have played an integral role in shaping the social, economic, and architectural fabric of our region for over a century, from the early settlers of the 1900s to the vibrant community hubs in neighborhoods like East Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley. This initiative reflects the City's commitment to an inclusive, equitable preservation program, ensuring that the diversity history of the City's heritage - including its churches, businesses, schools, and homes - is recognized, surveyed, and protected for future generations of Angelenos.
