
Commissioner Lawrence brings over 25 years of grassroots organizing experience and creative development to deprived communities, start-ups, studios and agencies where the demand to disrupt aligns with social good. She is the Founder and lead Creative Producer at Deep Rooted Entertainment Group, LLC, a boutique multimedia production company. A respected generational builder and impact Artrepreneur (Artist+ Entrepreneur), her passion for community development is lit with cultural competency to influence public policy or civic awareness to ensure diversity is included in the expansion of consumer consciousness.
A native of Smyrna, Delaware, Maleena Lawrence is a proud HBCU graduate of Norfolk State University. During her post graduate years in the Bay Area, Ms. Lawrence served in the office of Congresswoman Barbara Lee handling Constituent Grievances. She served as administrative marketing specialist for Gurson/Overstreet Architectural firm for projects such as SFO International Airport boarding area A and Chabot Space and Science Center. Also acquiring experience in urban planning and redevelopment with WDA Associates by serving as a Redevelopment Administrative Analyst. Related projects include providing project support with blight analysis, tax increment feasibility and economic development trends for South of Market, Trans Bay Terminal and Mid Market redevelopment areas. This stepping stone led Ms. Lawrence’s moved to Los Angeles and influenced her ability to lead successful local and national public relation campaigns and coalition initiatives for brands, candidates, filmmakers, non-profits, independent artists and for-profit companies. She is a trained certified Dispute Resolution Mediator who encourages constituents to voice their concerns through tactful dialogue. Ms. Lawrence enjoys performing arts, traveling, practicing Mindfulness and is a strong advocate for community wellness and human rights.
