The Open Space Element is a component of the City of Los Angeles General Plan. Adopted in 1973, the Open Space Element guides the comprehensive and long-range preservation of open space to serve the recreational, environmental, health, and safety needs of the City.
The Open Space Element is currently being updated in accordance with City priorities and State Law (Senate Bill 1425). The current update is a targeted amendment that will center social, economic, and equity issues related to open space access, as well as priorities related to climate resilience and rewilding opportunities. More information is available on the Open Space Element Update page.
